The N’s Are Tough

I woke up the morning of the N’s in a panic.  What was I going to eat?  Besides nectarines, which i hate, the list was short and not that attractive.   It became even harder when I had some business lunches scheduled.  You can see in the video below how I was forced into alcohol and nacho’s for lunch:

While lunch was tough, dinner was much easier thanks to Kita and the Murdock family.   The ‘N’ day happened to coincide with Toby’s birthday.  They invited me over for the celebration and, amazingly, had prepared a fully N-balanced meal.  We had a main dish of Noodles and a dessert of Neapolitan ice cream.  I’m quite blessed to have friends who will accomodate such madness.

M was a Magnificent Day

Posted on by 0 comment

I really loved my ‘M’ day.  I missed breakfast and went straight into lunch. I was planning on a Meatball Sub, but surprisingly the sandwich store i went to (Salvaggio’s) didn’t have one.   But they did have Mortadella meat so i got a Mortadella sandwich with mayo, mustard and mozerella cheese.  It was pretty damn delicious

For dinner, I also had a fantastic meal.  I went with meatloaf and mashed potatoes.  Glorious.

B – One of the greatest days

Note: this post is from Nader Akhnoukh

So far I’ve had a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel, aka a breakfast sandwich.

I’ll probably have a beef and black bean burrito for lunch.

Then I’m thinking some BBQ and beer for dinner, maybe with a side of beet salad.

If I’m still hungry the ice cream place in town makes a mean banana split.

Does it get any better than B?

Recap of G, H, I, J Days

Posted on by 0 comment

So it’s been a rough couple of days. I’m not going to lie, this diet can be really inconvenient.

The ‘G’ day was rough – not because i couldn’t find any food but rather because i did a “Grinder” for both lunch and dinner. Having Ginger Ale was nice though. It was a rough day, but not the worst of the week. You can see the pic of my grinder and ginger ale to the right

My ‘H’ day wasn’t much better as i did a ham sandwiches and halibut. It wasn’t that bad, but i didn’t have that many options.

Things got real tough when ‘I’ came around. Not only is it one of the hardest days, but I was traveling during it. When you can’t control your surroundings, the alphabet diet is almost impossible. I managed to get an Italian sub for lunch but struggled to find anything for dinner. I finally broke down and had some Indian Food. I know it’s not legit, but a brother has to eat – and i was starving.

This morning, Nader informed me of a huge mistake. If i was going to break on the ‘I’ day, i could have broken with some In-N-Out. Crap! If only I had thought of that yesterday.

I’m now getting started with the ‘J’ day. I had some juice this morning to get going and am looking forward to some jambalaya later today. Any other suggestions of what i should have?

F’ing Monday

I had some great French Toast this morning and a Fajita for lunch.  It’s been a great monday so far – foodwise that is.   We were talking of Fondue tonight.  Any other suggestions?

C My Lumch

I had so many options for lunch today. Caitlin was nice enough to remind me that i can eat more than just cookies today. She was definitely right. I had so many options: cashews, clam chowder and more.

While I find that the diet can be constraining, it’s also fun to have some guidelines each day on what to eat.

What did I settle on? A bowl of chilli and a bottle of cane soda:

C’ing my way through the third day

I had a crazy dream last night. It was that I’m running through the city and it’s my ‘D’ day. I can’t find any duck or dumplings, I’m panicking and don’t know what to do. It’s all so horrible.

I woke up abruptly all disheveled. Luckily for me I come to my senses and realize that it was all a dream. Today isn’t a ‘D’ day but rather my ‘C’ day. Whew. I got up and made myself a bowl of cereal and relaxed.

All is well again in the world. That is until tomorrow when I’m in NYC and actually trying to find some dumplings.

The B’s are Beautiful

Posted on by 3 comments

A bagels for breakfast, a lovely burrito for lunch, and it’s clear that the B’s are going to be a breeze.  Most places have something good with B on the menu.

I’ve also decided the “beer” is too generic and there are different types of beers like Lager, Porter, Hefewizen, etc. This will also make the diet as a whole more enjoyable 🙂

Any good suggestions of what to make for dinner?

A challenge to Acorn Squash

This is a guest post from a new user to the blog.  You too can write one by clicking on the widget on teh lower right of this page or by going to EatingAtoZ.kapost.com.  This is from Karlyn:

I strongly oppose the denial of acorn squash for A-day. That is like saying a sweet potatoe is only a potatoe. Acorn squash is one of many different varieties of squash. On another note, apples baked inside an aacorn squash with a little brown suger and cinnamon is awesome.

Editor note: thank you for your note.  I agree with you that it is indeed a separate food.  Similarly Hot Chocolate is not just chocolate that is hot but is its own food too.  I will add that to the list.

Antipasti saves my lunch

Posted on by 2 comments

There i was standing in downtown Boulder on Pearl St. and was struggling to find a suitable lunch for myself.  I needed something that started with ‘A’.  I had a spare apple in my jacket pocket as a safety net, but i was hoping to not go there as an apple was all i had for breakfast.  Luckily, Toby was there for me with genius idea of antipasti.

We found a local pizza joint who serves it.  Having never really dabbled in the “heathly” foods much, i was too familiar with Antipasti but i was pleasantly surprised to find that it was swimming with meats and flavor.   Thank you Toby and thank you antipasti.  One more meal left and then done with the A’s
